Open 24 hours. This is Soho.   When I first came to London in 2015, I came from Galați, a city in Romania, where we didn’t even have a cinema or shopping centre for most of my life. Coming to London, and I was in awe. Bars, restaurants, shops open all night. At night is when the people come alive! This is what Photo Every Day is about. This photo was taken the day before and edited and released the next day. I got inspired the day before by seeing a collection of reflections from a photographer I love, called Monaris, and then while out shooting, this shot presented itself! As you’ll know if you’ve listened to me speak, I love to take photos of older men… It’s a thing! And there he was, just sat in this perfect framing in a pub reading his newspaper with a wine glass, all alone. And hey, that’s me in the shot!   Funny story - it took me maybe 30 minutes to capture this one shot. Not taking the shot. Just time spent walking back and forward being scared to take it. Luckily my reflection and the shot lined up perfectly in the few seconds that I quickly took this in. Chaos In The Night. When I take photos, I always make sure there aren’t many people around as I focus on finding the subject of the story. But, with this shot, I captured life as it happens. Life that sometimes becomes chaotic. All of us rush to get somewhere. In this story, there are multiple subjects. They have different destinations to reach, but the one thing they have in common is being in the same place at the same time. After a full day of taking shots in London, I was coming to the end of shooting, and I saw this place that had just one person in, it was completely empty other than them. He looked like he was ordering, but there were no staff and it looked like the place was closed for the night.   The dim lights, the bare decoration in the store, the cleaning products, and him standing under a lamp that was not turned on, made for even more mystery. Just the pink lights brightly lighting the background and surroundings.   Sometimes when I take photos I don’t think anything of it... I completely forget about the shot. But then I get home, look through all the shots, play around with editing and it jumps out at me. All of a sudden I'm obsessed. The photo and story comes to life. My favourite thing to photograph is classic cars. Whenever I’m walking around any city, I keep an eye open in case I might spot one. Living in London gives me the chance to find these beauties on the streets very often. The secret is not to look specifically for one because you will never find it. But when I spot one on the streets, I immediately stop without any hesitation to take the shot. London is filled with some of the most amazing classic cars I have seen. But it's very rare to find one positioned with nothing around it, with the perfect backdrop and the perfect light!

A late night chat between three friends. Having a heated debate, outside an Italian restaurant, over who knows what?! Probably, politics&. First, I was attracted by the green colours of the restaurant and the lights, so was capturing this. Then I saw them to the side, and they were perfectly positioned for a shot of the restaurant and them!

Notting Hill. A place full of colourful houses that make for the perfect backdrop to a photo, but it was at this simple fruit stall where I found this shot. Buying fruit might seem like a mundane task, but it all lined up for the story of this shot. Sometimes the simple things in life make for the best shots and stories. Electric Cinema is one of my favourite cinemas in London aswell, and that being seen in the background just finished the story for me. Sometimes when you capture a shot, you get something unexpected that takes it to a piece that you really love. As I was focussing on getting the design of the food store, the queue of people, and the woman in between as the main focus of my shot& the bird flew up. The bird being a true pro stayed out of the way of the sign, so that everything in the shot fit. The colours of this stand, the woman standing in the queue, and the bird flying all came together for this shot! Taken in London Bridge, London, 2022. I really wanted to take a shot of this woman while she was in front of the food stand, but it was crowded so I couldn't get a clear shot. I waited to the side and as I took the shot she looked right at me and my camera. I don't often like to interrupt someone, but she looked perfectly into my lens. Walking around China Town in Soho, London, I stopped as I saw 2 men collecting the decorations. I thought this guy would be very good to photograph, as his face just told a story. I got loads of shots, but all of the shots had him looking to the side or looking down, but just as I was about to leave, as if it was fate, one of the decorations blew over to my feet. He came walking over to collect it and as he was walking over he looked straight at me, resulting in this shot. Just after this as I put my camera down, he smiled in acknowledgement! It always makes me feel good when someone sees me take a shot, and they smile - it's a sign of recognition that it was ok!

Taking a break - a moment of peace. As I was walking through Chinatown in Soho, London, I saw him sitting, smoking and taking a break on his phone. I saw that he had stains on his jeans and uniform from the kitchen. The 30 seconds I was stood in front of him, and the time I spent editing, brought me into his world. The world of hard work in the kitchen of the restaurant, wearing a mask all day, and this short moment of peace in between, where he gets to drop his mask, smoke and catch up on his phone, before going back to the heat of the kitchen.

Out of focus. I love to capture shots where the foreground is blurred, and the background is brought to life. Sometimes this can be accidental and sometimes on purpose. For this photo, I wanted to show off the background, and use the focus to add mystery to the shot. The reflection of the passing car in the background, also shows that sometimes what we see in life is a little out of focus. Shot in Canary Wharf, London, 2022. After a fashion shoot with a brand, I was going to catch a train and outside the station saw this guy. I had my camera out, and had to wait a while to make sure I timed it correctly, and then as a I captured the shot the guy walking, the woman in front, and the train passing, all lined up perfectly. Sometimes when you take a shot, you disregard them and forget about them. But then when looking back through shots your vision has changed. As soon as I saw this shot again, I imagined a cyberpunk look to the photo. With the people on the right hand side under a green light, the guy in the cinema just over the blurred guys shoulder in the green light too. 6 people, only 2 of them in a group, but their paths all intersected for one vision, and one world where they are all together. Through the window. Captured in Brick Lane, London, 2022. At this fish and chips restaurant, I was taking a shot of the salt and pepper on the table at first, and all my focus was there. But, as I looked up I saw the guy in the shop distracted, and the lights around him. The whole frame came together for a story of the life in this empty restaurant. Away from the busy streets. In an area filled with business people in their expensive suits, it is him that stands out to me. From all the buzz made by people going about their day, having a beer or grabbing their lunch before going back to their offices, I found this man smoking his cigarette. He spotted me with my camera, so he moved out of my way thinking I was taking a shot of the building. "How could I be the model in her photo?" Greenwich nights. Spotting this classic car during the day, I felt the shot had to be at night. Transforming an image completely into a vision is something I love to do. GRIND. While I was waiting for the shot to happen, that moment to be captured, I kept shooting at random. When suddenly, I saw her from the corner of my eye coming in front of me. So I decided to keep shooting in the hope that I would capture one with her. I love to blur a shot on purpose, keeping the background in focus, while still keeping the foreground character in enough focus to be able to see their story! Right outside Tottenham Court Road, one of the busiest streets and tube stations in London, sits a food stall selling roasted nuts. Thousands of people walk past every day and night, but only 3 are in the shot. They all have a different story. One waits for a friend before heading to the theatre, a bar, a restaurant. One walks back to the station after visiting the city or being at work. This photo could be taken 1000 times over an hour and you would see different people every time, but only one person would remain the same. Somehow this photo seems to capture a sense of calm amongst the chaos. Everything is still and paused for that one moment, before the chaos resumes.
