American scientist and inventor Benjamin Franklin first used the term "battery" in 1749 when he was doing experiments with electricity using a set of linked capacitors.

Historians generally believe that the cigar was invented by the ancient Mayans, who would wrap the tobacco in a palm or a plantain leave and smoke it. Archaeologists have even discovered an ancient Mayan pot from the 10th century that depicts a Mayan man puffing on one of these very early cigars. When Christopher Columbus came over to the New World he was one of the first Westerners to discover tobacco. The local Indians showed him how they smoked the tobacco leaves and Columbus and his lieutenants quickly adopted the habit. It was around this time that manufacturers in Spain started wrapping the dried tobacco in papers rather than leaves.

Rolling Papers were invented in Spain, not France. The French didn't trade tobacco with the new world until a lifetime after the Spanish already were. In 1660, the Lacroix family began producing the papers; in 1736 they obtained a mill and founded the Lacroix Rolling Paper company. The first recorded use of a joint was in Mexico. Though cannabis had been used as a medicine for a long time, it seems that the joint was first used for recreational purposes. It was a pharmacist at University of Guadalajara who first mentioned that laborers were mixing cannabis with tobacco in their cigarettes.Memphis 2022

Eyepiece is a collaboration from Algo Fotos and Dick LaFlame. It is a mixture of video footage, time-lapse photography, painting effects, and original music. Original Music by Dick LaFlame entitled "Mission St."

Eyepiece was filmed at an unnamed lake created when the Mississippi River was diverted and straightened by the state. Many years ago before this was a small lake it was part of the original Mississippi River. The barges carrying goods from the Gulf couldn't pass thru at certain times in the year due to low water levels. Now the opposite is true, this spot will flood with the rising of the Mississippi River restricting its view to only a few times per year.

It's hard to find a terrible view while visiting the Grand Canyon. Widely considered one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the canyon, formed by millions of years of erosion, wind, rain and the Colorado River, stretches an impressive 227 miles long and averages over ten miles wide.

It’s unknown when exactly nails were invented. With that said, archeologists have found nails in Egypt dating back to around 3,400 B.C. The term "penny", as it refers to nails, probably originated in medieval England to describe the price of a hundred nails. Nails were expensive and difficult to obtain in the American colonies, so that abandoned houses were sometimes deliberately burned down to allow recovery of used nails from the ashes. Today's nails are typically made of steel, often dipped or coated to prevent corrosion in harsh conditions or to improve adhesion.

As a child in the south summertime meant the return of the tree frogs. They always found a place to perch and wait for tasty bugs. In my luck they would stop and visit my bedroom window. Now as an adult it's a fun reminder of my youth and the beginning facinations with the outdoors.

If you listen closely you may still hear the remnants of the workers from years gone by. The machinery whirling 16 hours a day, large trucks being loaded and unloaded. The smell of virgin cotton still floats in the air. This Old Gin has sat empty for many years but still serves as a connection to the past.
